Perfect and devastating
Pizza Delivery Guy and the Gold Palace
W O W. That's all I CAN SAY. FORMULATE. Honestly, it had been a long time since I read a yaoi with two things done so well: a well-built story that handles sensitive topics, like panic attacks and the difficulties of adult life, in such an exemplary way.
That's the word: exemplary. Delivery Guy (as I'll call the work in this review) is an example of how it's possible to make a devastating work, in a good way, that is also arousing. Here we follow a pizza delivery guy struggling to pay off his debts. Lost in the world (and in what he wants to do with his life), he ends up meeting a CEO with anxiety problems. What was supposed to be just another delivery turns into something much more special and, I must say, beautiful.
Delivery Guy is an adult work with great scenes and an extremely satisfying construction of its characters and their depth. Overall, the work manages to address all its facets in a way that is — I may sound alarmist — perfect.
As for the adult scenes, and yes, it has them, they're introduced in a natural, intelligent and INTENSE way. Delivery Guy manages to bring together big themes of the yaoi world around a beautiful, still ongoing, work.
I recommend it, recommend it and recommend it! It's definitely impossible to regret reading Delivery Guy. You might not like it, because of the story's somewhat slow pace (which I don't consider a problem) or even because of certain themes it deals with, but regret it? I find that hard, not to say impossible, for anyone who at least enjoys BL/yaoi.
To wrap up, Delivery Guy is a GIFT. Intense and dealing with adult themes, it may not be the best choice for those looking for a quick, basic story, but it's certainly the right work for those who know how to appreciate a good yaoi and are looking for an excellent read.
