Yours to Claim (Season 1)

Recommended 4/5Drama

Yours to Claim is the kind of work that intrigues you from the start. Although I've only read the first season (and, mind you, as fast as I could), it did win me over. But maybe... for the wrong reasons.

Here we follow two college students (and a third guy, a foreigner, who comes out of nowhere and disappears just as fast, lol). You already know where this is going. (And yes, there's only one right team among the semes, and it's the one that doesn't treat the boy like an object.)

The story has few innovations. Overall, what the author does very well is create situations where you need to know how they'll end (like this fight between semes). And that he does perfectly. The art is very beautiful. The characters, each with their own personality, are well built, and the "standard" story is satisfying.

Yours to Claim, in its first season, wants to make a grand entrance and uses and abuses dramatic devices, but... not very well. There were some scenes so cringeworthy that, even though I understood the "purpose", they felt VERY forced.

Overall, though, the debut season presents the plot (hastily; it could have detailed and explained some aspects better) and invites us into a love triangle that's starting to form.

Do I recommend it? Without a shadow of a doubt. It's the kind of work that's more likely to please than displease. The high point may be the main character, who charms us (and drives us crazy) with his decisions and his lack of them. Worth checking out!
